I remember first discovering blogging when I was pregnant with my oldest child. I was scrolling through Pinterest and saw a post about a mom who was able to make a full-time income from home by blogging. From there I did a little research on blogging and read some income reports (I still love reading those!).
So many people talked about how great blogging was. But I just didn’t feel like having a mom blog was for me. Who would want to read something I wrote? And what would I even write about? I really liked the idea of blogging, but I was too nervous to pursue it at all.
For a long time I didn’t give the idea much thought. Blogging was just something that was for other people, not for me. It wasn’t until I was pregnant for the second time that I revisited the idea of starting a mom blog. At that time I was working outside the home again, but it just wasn’t where I felt I should be. I desperately wanted to be home with my babies.
After my first experience being a stay at home mom though, I knew that I would need to do things differently. Making time for things that I loved had to be more of a priority. I also wanted to eventually be able to contribute financially to our family. Blogging seemed like it would be an awesome hobby, and the potential to make money with it was so tempting. I did a ton more research and this time decided why not give it a try?
Honestly, I wish that I had started blogging a long, long time ago. It’s been one of the best things I could have done for myself and my family. Not only do I get to do something that I love, but my hobby has also made me a little money. And it has the potential to turn into a full-time income if I put the work into it.
Maybe you’ve thought about starting your own blog, but you’re too scared to do it. I’m here to tell you that if you’ve even just considered blogging for a minute and thought it might be something you’d like to do, you need to just go for it! Take that leap! I wish that I had started blogging the very first time I learned about it.
Here are just a few of the many reasons why you NEED to start a mom blog. Like, right now.
It’s the perfect hobby for moms
It’s so awesome being able to stay home with my babies while also doing something for me. I don’t have to leave my house or find someone to watch my kids in order to work. I mostly just get some writing or blog work done while the kids nap or after they go to bed. Blogging is the kind of job you can work around your schedule and make it work for you.
With blogging, you don’t have to leave your home or find a sitter. And you can make it work with the time you have available. It’s the perfect hobby for moms!
You can help other moms like you
You have something to offer. Unique experiences, opinions, and advice that can help other moms. Your voice has the potential to help other moms through a similar journey. You can share lessons you’ve learned the hard way, humor to make someone else smile, or encouragement to help someone through a tough time. You won’t know until you try!
It’s an awesome way to make connections
Being a stay at home mom, it can be so easy to get lonely and feel like the walls are closing in. Being home almost every day with only your kids for company can feel very isolating.
Making the time to grab a cup of coffee or have lunch with friends isn’t always possible. But with blogging you don’t even have to leave your home to make some awesome new mom friends! It’s a great community to be a part of. Obviously, you still need to get out for some human interaction for you and your kids, but it can be great not feeling so isolated for the times when leaving your house isn’t easy or even possible.
A mom blog can give you some accountability
When I wrote about cutting back on TV, knowing that I put it out there to the whole world definitely made me want to stick to my plan. Even if no one would really know, I felt more motivated to do it because I had written about my decision. I’ve definitely backslid – many times – but rereading my thoughts helps me to keep trying to do a better job on having the TV off more.
It just helps keep me from thinking that I need to improve on something and then just giving it up when it’s not easy. I don’t know about anybody else, but I do that all the time! If no one else knows about changes I’m trying to make it can be so easy to just throw in the towel. Whereas, if I talk to someone about needing to make a change, I’m much more likely to do it. And even if I do mess up, it makes me want to keep trying.
Something all your own
After I had my first baby I just kind of fell into mom mode 24/7. It seemed like my whole day was dedicated to taking care of someone else. I didn’t really do anything for me anymore. I became so focused on taking care of my new baby and home that I didn’t do any of the things that I used to enjoy.
Having a blog gives me something that is all for me. It feels so nice to be able to do something other than “mom stuff” sometimes. And I feel like I’m a better mom for it. I think it’s so important to take care of yourself by doing things that you love, whether that’s pampering yourself or having a hobby. It makes me feel recharged being able to do something that I love! And when mama’s happy, everyone’s happy!
You can actually make an income from blogging!!
Yeah, it’s true! I’ve actually made money doing this! Even with taking off several months after my son was born. And the months that I have been working on this blog, it’s only a couple hours here and there.
One of the ways that I’m able to cut down on the time I work is by using BoardBooster. It pins my posts on Pinterest for me without me having to do anything once it’s set. So on the months that I took off I was actually still making money without doing anything!! I was a skeptic before I actually got signed up, but it’s so worth it. And it starts at only $5 a month! It’s already paid for itself and then some. Click the link to try it for yourself and get your first 100 pins for free!
I’ve only been blogging since October and have already made hundreds of dollars doing this. But so many women are making way more than that! There’s so much potential to make a full-time income from blogging. All while being able to stay home with your kids. It doesn’t get much better than that!
If you’ve ever contemplated starting a blog, do it! Just take the plunge. Starting this blog has been an amazing experience for me and honestly, I wish I had done it the first time I thought about it! Yes, it can be scary and intimidating to put yourself out there and share your thoughts and your stories, but it’s so incredibly worth it!
